Men and Abortion

The issue of abortion for a man is a paradox. While a man has no legal right in a woman’s abortion decision, he does have significant influence regarding the life of his unborn child. Abortion creates loss not only for women, but for men, too. Men are not alone when faced with an untimely pregnancy. Every man needs to be armed with the facts and be open to talk about real options.

Help is Available

Michigan has more than 150 prolife pregnancy help centers, adoption agencies and social service organizations. Many of these centers provide services directly to men or can refer men to nearby resources, whether it’s help with a crisis pregnancy situation or struggling with a history involving abortion. You can also call 1-877-LIFE OPTIONS for help.

Post-Abortion Syndrome

Abortion doesn’t just effect women; it can impact the men involved as well, even family members. Post-Abortion Syndrome (or PAS) is a form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Symptoms may occur immediately following the abortion, but they may also develop years later or come to the surface around the anniversary of the abortion, the expected due date of the baby, or major holidays and celebrations. Guilt about a past abortion can even impact men who didn’t encourage or push the abortion involving their child. Learn more about the emotional and behavioral effects that abortion can also have on men and find resources for post-abortion help and counseling.
