Pregnant and Parenting Student Services
(H.B. 4564)
Sponsor: Rep. Lockwood
Women who become pregnant unexpectedly in college find that accessing
resources to carry a pregnancy to term on campus can be quite difficult.
Abortion referrals are readily available, but information about
resources regarding the needs of having and caring for a child is
less accessible. H.B. 4564 is a funding initiative that would provide
grants for institutions of higher education to create an on-campus
office that provides pregnant and parenting students with information
about resources available through the university, the community
and the government.
1/5 of all abortions are performed on college women. Many
of these women feel they must choose between their future and their
baby. This program will help college women see that they can choose
both. This program offers college women a real choice.
This office will help student parents to stay in school so
they can obtain the benefits of a college degree. It will also help
them to avoid the emotional and physical complications associated
with abortion.
