Respect Life DinnerThe Respect Life Dinner is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Michigan State Council to benefit the Right to Life of Michigan Educational Fund. Blaha has been the radio and television play-by-play voice of the Detroit Pistons since the 1976-77 NBA season as well as the radio voice of the Michigan State Spartans football team. Serving as special guest and speaker, The Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson is sure to inspire as he articulates the Christian perspective on the dignity of every human person. The Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson has served as the bishop of the Diocese of Saginaw since 2005. Bishop Carlson was first ordained as a priest for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 23, 1970. On January 11, 1984, he was ordained bishop serving, as auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bishop Carlson is an outspoken advocate of the culture of life, calling public figures to accountability on such issues as abortion. Bishop Carlson has said, "As a leader in the Catholic Church, I must be a moral voice in our society and challenge people to consider the issues from a moral point of view. The Catholic Church has taught from the beginning that the killing of the unborn is intrinsically evil . . and can never by justified . . . When the unborn are not protected, the 'very foundations of the state based on law are undermined.'"
