Protecting Life

Through the years, the prolife movement has come face to face with new challenges to the sanctity of human life. Overturning Roe v. Wade, stopping abortion and reaching out to women in crisis will always be primary objectives for the prolife movement.

But with advances in technology, the prolife community has also had to address the issues of embryonic stem cell research and human cloning. While abortion intentionally ends the life of an innocent human being, embryonic stem cell research and human cloning for research require the intentional destruction of tiny human beings so that researchers can experiment on their cells. Instead of seeing human embryos as valuable because they are living human beings, human embryos (or at least their parts) are now being seen as valuable because some scientists deem their cells to be research-worthy. When any human being is dehumanized in such a way, our entire human family suffers.
What ties all these issues together is the compelling need to protect the lives of human beings when they are at their most vulnerable stages of life. At one point in life, every one of us was an embryo. We were vulnerable once and will most likely be vulnerable again. Every living human being, wherever they may be located, in a woman’s womb, in a petri dish or a hospital, deserves the chance to continue his or her life.
