Right to Life of Michigan

President's Message A Voice for the Voiceless.

September 22nd is a special day—a day to "Be Glad of Life and Revel in its Value." What an appropriate theme for our 34th annual Right to Life of Michigan Conference. (See pages 4 & 5 for registration information.)

Each annual Right to Life of Michigan conference raises questions. How much longer will such gatherings be necessary? Why hasn’t the U. S. Supreme Court reversed its 1973 decisions creating a right to abortion? When will the unborn finally be protected by our legal system? How long must we wait?

And we may continue through another year without answers to the questions. Why do we persist? This year’s conference theme provides a partial reason: "Be Glad of Life and Revel in its Value."

I have found in my travels around the state meeting with affiliate leaders and members that prolife people are people who love and value life. They are people of courage and determination, of faith and optimism. They have learned through the years that the path to protect the unborn and undo the tangled web of the Supreme Court decisions is a path filled with twists, turns and detours. Some days we celebrate a victory for life; other days we mourn another benchmark that devalues life. But through both the good days and the disappointing ones, the message remains the same: we will continue to be the voice for the voiceless.

Writer and artist Maryanne Radmacher says it best: "Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I’ll try again tomorrow.’".

Yes, abortion is still legal. Yes, close on the horizon is a new threat to innocent human life: the creation and then the killing of human embryos for research. Yes, we continue to be faced with many obstacles to our goals of providing legal protection to those threatened by a quality of life ethic. But prolifers in their quiet way have the courage to continue on.

Join your fellow right to lifers at this year’s annual conference which will provide you with the ideas, tools, inspiration and encouragement to continue the journey to the day when each and every human life is seen as precious, irreplaceable and protected by law. Come to Lansing on September 22nd and "Be Glad of Life and Revel in its Value."
