Right to Life of Michigan

Assault on Life

Governor Jennifer Granholm and U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow continue their individual assault on life from their respective offices of power and influence.

In an Associated Press article, Governor Granholm, during a September 29 press conference, confirmed her support of embryonic stem cell research. While state law now bans such research, Granholm favors destroying life in its earliest stages to conduct research which has consistently shown to be of no effect in treating diseases. Indeed, adult stem cell and umbilical cord blood cell research has shown enormous promise, but those - like Granholm - would assault life and continue to insist on taking the lives of human embryos. Another assault on life is when Gov. Granholm noted the accomplishment, “Protected a women’s right to choose,” in the Fall 2005 Michigan Women publication. The question is: A right to choose what? Every abortion ends the life of an innocent human being and may physically and emotionally harm the mother. A “right” to choose abortion is no accomplishment for women.

In the United States Senate, Debbie Stabenow voted to reject now-Chief Justice John Roberts, Jr. to a place on the nation’s highest court. Stabenow was one of just 22 senators to vote “no” on the Roberts confirmation vote. While no one can predict how Chief Justice Roberts will vote, his past record and stated desire to be a “strict constructionist” seems to bode well for life issues which may come before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Both Granholm and Stabenow are up for re-election in 2006. Prolifers would do well to remember the records of both candidates. A compilation of the anti-life actions of Governor Jennifer Granholm and Senator Debbie Stabenow are available at www.rtl.org.
