Take Your Moral Values to the Voting Booth
By Pastor Jim Severance

It’s not the hand that signs the law that holds the destiny of America, it’s the hand that casts the ballot.” Harry Truman

Most Americans agree that we need strong leadership to represent citizens and to make necessary changes based on the will of the people. Americans deserve, and should demand leadership that is built on morals, integrity, honesty, experience, and skill. Our future depends on whom we choose to represent us. As voters, we must be familiar with each candidate’s personal background and political record, as well as moral, ethical, and spiritual beliefs and practices.

Our response to, and support of, moral issues should reflect our personal value system, which expresses who we are and what we believe. It is my personal belief that at least 51 percent of what we vote for should reflect our moral values. We should also understand that everyone does not have the same moral response; therefore, we need to seek Godly answers. Jesus is Lord, whether recognized or not. There are times the Lord allows the wrong person to get in office because of our neglect. He allows us to reap what we sow, driving us to our senses to look beyond our pocket book, and to deal with morality, as we should.

In addition to current political issues, citizens must vote their conscience. The Lord was pleased with us when the state of Michigan turned down assisted suicide. What would our Lord’s response be if abortion were abolished?

How are you going to vote on Election Day? Let’s pray to seek the Lord’s guidance in choosing our leaders.
