Students for Life Day Reflections
Students for Life Day was more than just a day of fun and fellowship;
it was a day of inspiration. On September 29, Flint Right to Life
welcomed more than 90 students from around the state to the Holiday
Inn Gateway Centre for Students for Life Day. The day began early
with breakfast and an icebreaker.
Following the icebreaker, Kira Gregorchik , president of Washtenaw
County Right to Life, spoke to the students about her experience
of being an adoptee. Kira spoke about her search for her birth mother
and finally about the confrontation with her birth mother. Her pithy
stories evoked laughter from everyone in the room while at the same
time causing the students to think about the importance of life
and the option that adoption offers.
The day was also filled with several prolife student speakers from
college and from high school who shared their experiences in the
prolife movement. The students even had the opportunity to be entertained
by the Saginaw Valley Drama Team who acted out funny, yet thought-provoking
skits.
Finally, the day closed with a presentation by Bryan Kemper, the
founder and national director of Rock for Life. Bryan's powerful
speech exposed the reality of abortions and teen abortions and inspired
the students to go out and fight against this country's number one
killer. Bryan asked for the abortionists to "stop killing my
generation" and even gave the students ways to combat (peacefully,
of course) abortion. His speech ended with a standing ovation by
the students who requested that Bryan come back and speak to their
youth groups and classrooms at school.
Students for Life Day was an exciting day! Each student went home
with a prolife prize which was won from the prize drawings that
were conducted intermittently during the day. One lucky student
from the Flint area even won a trip for two to the March for Life
in Washington D.C. on January 22, 2002.
Still the biggest award of the day was the message that each student
took home with him/her that "Life is Precious."
