Right to Life of Michigan

Don't be fooled by other prolife groups calling in Michigan
There’s only one Right to Life of Michigan

Right to Life of Michigan wasn't the only group suspicious of Elect Life, an organization calling in Michigan claiming to raise money to end partial-birth abortions. The New York Daily News also investigated Elect Life and in August published an article detailing their not so reputable business practices.

President of Right to Life of Michigan Barbara Listing said, “It is unfortunate when we hear about organizations raising money in Michigan to end abortion, and yet do nothing to aid the prolife movement in this state.”

Elect Life hasn't been the only organization calling in Michigan. The Pro-Life Campaign Committee has also been raising funds to end partial-birth abortions, but little is known about this newly started organization. What is known, however, does not show signs of an honorable organization.

The Federal Election Commission filed a document, “Statement of Organization,” on March 31, 2000, for the Pro-Life Campaign Committee. The Pro-Life Campaign Committee is a newly registered political action committee but has yet to meet the information requirements of the FEC. Two requests for information were sent out by the FEC and a notice of failure to file donations and expenses was also sent.

By law, political action committees like the Pro-Life Campaign Committee are required to file what donations were received and expenses incurred on a quarterly basis. Because the Pro-Life Campaign Committee has not filed the needed documentation, it is unclear how donations are being spent by this organization.

Elect Life has, however, filed reports to the FEC and the reports show that more than $2 million has been raised with only 1 percent of the contributions going to assist the prolife movement.

What is important to note is that both Elect Life and the Pro-Life Campaign Committee are using the same telemarketing firm in Arizona, Capitol Communications.

Listing said, “Unfortunately, there are some organizations which are raising money claiming to make a difference in the prolife movement, but the money is not being spent to save the lives of the unborn nor to help women facing a crisis pregnancy.”

The educational and legislative work of Right to Life of Michigan does not benefit from other prolife organizations calling in Michigan.
