Learn the truth behind America’s #1 abortion provider

For years the general public’s perception of Planned Parenthood has been shaped by an image of P.P. as provider of needed health services. True P.P. does provide some important health services like breast and cervical cancer screening, disease testing, and even some prenatal care. Of course, their advocacy for birth control and being a source for contraceptives is a foundation of their reputation.

But there should be no doubt in the mind of any prolife person of conscience, P.P. has a dark side with a very deadly agenda. According to the national Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s own 1999 report, P.P is the nation’s #1 abortion provider. To repeat, no one kills more unborn children in America than Planned Parenthood. Because most P.P. clinics do not provide abortions, they frequently refer women to nearby abortion clinics. Combining their referrals for abortions with the abortions they perform, P.P. is responsible for 15 percent of the entire country’s abortions. The 1998 PPFA report shows a 1.6 percent increase in the number of abortions P.P. provided in 1998 over 1997. What’s more, P.P. continues to expand the number of its clinics that perform abortions, growing their abortion clinics from 99 in 1992 to 148 in 1997. As their own report claims, “Planned Parenthood strives to preserve - and expand - access to abortion services to all women who face unintended pregnancy.” Thus, while the national abortion rate continues to gradually fall, P.P. is intent on providing more abortions and increasing its “market share” of the abortion industry.

Planned Parenthood proudly boasts of its involvement in a number of tests on the “efficacy” of chemical abortion methods. P.P. is specifically helping to find new ways to kill unborn children. One could ask, “If P.P. means what they say about wanting to decrease the number and need for abortion, why are they helping to invent new ways of destroying children in the womb?”

But Planned Parenthood doesn’t stop with just their direct involvement with destroying unborn children. They also spend millions of dollars lobbying the government to keep abortion-on-demand legal. They have filed or joined lawsuits attempting to overturn every prolife law passed in Michigan. Even laws that don’t ban abortion, like parental consent or 24-hour waiting period laws are subject to P.P. legal attacks. They defend partial-birth abortion as legitimate and necessary. This year they have vowed to spend millions on television advertising to thwart the election of a prolife U.S. president.

Then there is the infuriating part - Planned Parenthood received more than $176.5 million in taxpayer dollars to run their operations in 1998. It is a staggering amount of prolife citizens’ money. So the same P.P. clinic worker being paid with government funds to provide “legitimate health services” will also refer a woman for an abortion, or do intake work for an abortion if that clinic happens to provide abortion. The government funds used to help keep the clinic open, lights on, bills paid, subsidize the abortions that are performed there.

Regardless of the good that Planned Parenthood may accomplish with some of its health services, the death of unborn children and destruction to women that they perpetrate far outweighs any good deeds.
