Prolifers Positively Impact Lansing
Legislative Director Ed Rivet and Legislative Liaison Suanne Thompson introduced the crowd to various pieces of prolife legislation and provided talking points and lobbying tips. House Bill 4446, the Ultrasound Viewing Option, is sponsored by Rep. David Robertson. This bill will require abortion providers to present women with the opportunity to view an active ultrasound image of their growing child as well as have a picture of that ultrasound image. Currently, ultrasound equipment is standard in all abortion clinics, is already a routine part of the procedure in most clinics and is generally included in the overall fee. This proposed legislation would amend the informed consent law. Women deserve to be fully informed regarding the development of their unborn child before an abortion is performed. This common sense legislation could prevent post-abortion trauma by giving women the whole truth before it’s too late. Two stellar prolife state representatives from Genesee County, David Robertson (R-Grand Blanc Township) and John Gleason (D-Flushing) inspired the attendees with their words of encouragement to protect all human life. After meeting in table caucuses to discuss strategy for lobbying their legislators, the 300-plus attendees filed into the ballroom for lunch where they sat with their legislators and discussed prolife issues. After lunch, Right to Life of Michigan’s Director of Urban Outreach and Gift Planning, Kathy Crombie, presented the Right to Life of Michigan’s Life of a People presentation which persuasively shows how abortion is affecting the African-American community. Michigan’s prolife citizens were invited to conclude their day by visiting Michigan’s capitol. If you missed Legislative Day this year, make sure you save April 26, 2006, for next year’s Legislative Day. Back to the table of contents |
