Assault on Life
Abortion is one of the most important issues to ever confront our nation.
Elected officials have an increased opportunity to be a voice for and
defend the most defenseless members of the human family. Unfortunately,
Governor Jennifer Granholm and Senator Debbie Stabenow have rejected opportunities
to aid vulnerable unborn children. Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s Assault On Life: Vetoed the Legal Birth Definition Act - a law which would have effectively banned partial birth abortion, the heinous procedure which deliberately and intentionally kills a live, partially-born baby. Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s Assault On Life 108th Congress - 2003-2004: 3/12/03 - Voted YES on Boxer Amendment to S3 - to send the bill that would ban partial birth abortions to the Judiciary Committee to examine constitutional issues...a motion designed to delay or kill the bill. 3/12/03 - Voted YES on Feinstein Substitute to S3 - which, if adopted, would have erased S3 and virtually allowed abortions without restrictions. 3/13/03 - Voted NO on S3 - to pass the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 and send it to the House of Representatives. 5/22/03 - Voted YES on an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2004 defense authorization bill to repeal the law that prohibits performance of abortions at U.S. military medical facilities. 7/9/03 - Voted NO to table the Boxer Amendment to the State Department Authorization bill to nullify the “Mexico City” policy that prohibits U.S. funds from going to overseas “population assistance” programs that perform or promote abortion or work to repeal prolife laws. 10/21/03 - Voted NO on S3 - another vote to adopt a conference report to pass the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act and send it to the President for his signature. 11/24/03 - Voted NO on a motion to waive a point of order against the final version (conference report) of H.R. 1, limiting the ability of senior citizens to get unrationed insurance for life-saving medical treatment under Medicare, thereby imposing a form of involuntary euthanasia. 11/25/03 - Voted NO on final passage of the Medicare Modernization Act (H.R. 1 above). 3/25/04 - Voted YES on Feinstein Substitute Amendment to the Unborn Victims of Violence Act (H.R. 1997) which would have written into federal law that there is only one victim - the mother only - in such crimes and would not recognize the unborn child as a second victim. 3/25/04 - Voted NO on final passage of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act - also known as “Laci and Conners Law.” The act would allow federal and military prosecutors to bring charges on behalf of a “child in utero” as a second victim when he or she is injured or killed during commission of a violent federal or military crime. 109th Congress - 2005: |
