Legislative Day
Mark your calendars for next year!
For those who weren't in Lansing on May 7 to attend Legislative
Day, it is recommended you talk to someone who was you'll
quickly realize that you missed out on a once-in-a-year opportunity.
The event began in the morning with Right to Life of Michigan's
own dynamic duo, Ed Rivet and Kristen Hemker. The vivacious Mr.
Rivet and the informative Ms. Hemker provided updates, summaries,
and lobbying tips on Michigan's current prolife legislation.
The standing room only crowd was then addressed by a variety
of prolife lawmakers including Lt. Governor Dick Posthumus and
State Representative Andrew Raczkowski. After meeting in table
caucuses to discuss strategy for lobbying their legislators, the
more than 300 attendees filed into the Lansing Center ballroom
for lunch where they sat with their representative and discussed
upcoming legislation.
A heart-wrenching keynote address was then given by Jill Stanek,
a nurse who witnessed babies being aborted alive and left to die.
The day was completed with optional tours of the State Capitol
and many prolifers stayed to attend and applaud the passing of
H.B. 4655, which will prioritize family planning funds. This was
not a day to be missed, so make sure that you mark your calendars
for next year's Legislative Day on May 14, 2003.
