Presidents Message
A day of mourning, remembering, and rededicating:
January 22, 2003, the 30th anniversary date of the U.S. Supreme
Court decisions legalizing abortion on demand
Some may ask, why dont you just give up? Abortion has been
legal so long; people are weary of hearing about abortion.
Our answer: how can we give up when each day at least 4000 innocent
babies lose their lives in horrendous ways: being homogenized
to death or sliced apart? How can we give up when the women who
have been victimized from abortion call us to describe the haunting
memories they face each day? How can we give up when we know that
progress is being made; that we are reducing the numbers of abortions
and helping women and families in need?
Our mission and determination can be described by the words of
the author Anatole France:
Excellence is the result of
caring more than others think is wise;
risking more than others think is safe;
dreaming more than others think is practical;
and expecting more than others think is possible.
Each of us can be a part of caring, risking, dreaming and expecting
more as we work together to defend the civil rights of the unborn
child. We can do it by:
being determined not to accept the status quo of legalized
abortion
being determined to invest ourselves in the prolife movement
by using our time and talents
being determined to bring others to the prolife cause.
For this time of reflection at the 30th commemoration of the
abortion decisions, there are practical ways to demonstrate concern
for this legal killing of the innocent. Attend a community service
sponsored by our local right to life affiliates; display a Choose
Life luminary on the eve of January 22nd; organize a signature
ad in your local newspaper with the names of Supporters of Life;
send a Life message postcard to your U.S. Congressman; join one
of the bus trips to the March for Life in Washington, D.C.; encourage
your pastor to use prolife bulletin inserts on a Sunday in January.
This January let us pledge action rather than indifference; involvement
rather than apathy; optimism rather than despair; courage rather
than fear. Thank you for caring for the innocent in the womb whose
unheard voices cry out for justice.
