America Mourns Abortion
We can never forget January 22, 1973
Some dates are easy to forget, like Groundhogs Day or the
last time you went to the dentist. The hustle and bustle of every
day life can lead us to concentrate on the present. One day, however,
that should never be forgotten is January 22, 1973.
On this day, two decisions that made it impossible for individual
states to defend unborn life were handed down by the U.S. Supreme
Court. Close to thirty years have passed since Roe v. Wade and
Doe v. Bolton allowed women to end their pregnancy through all
nine months as long as they could find a willing abortionist.
Since that date, more than 40 million unborn children have lost
their innocent lives to abortion. Millions of women have been
emotionally and physically scarred by a procedure they were told
was a safe and easy way to solve their problems. Life,
both born and unborn, has become less and less valuable to many
in our society.
In the face of all these tragedies, new breakthroughs in technology
including fetoscopy and 3-D ultrasounds have shown us in crystal
clear images that the child in a womans womb is undeniably
alive and human. No one who has obtained the slightest knowledge
of prenatal development can truthfully deny that abortion takes
a developing human life. We are no longer in the Middle Ages when
humankind could only guess how and when an unborn child develops.
Science has proven that, without question, lifes wonderful
journey from womb to tomb begins at conception.
January 22, 1973, is a date that can never be forgotten. No
matter how old abortion on demand is allowed to become, we cannot
turn our backs and forget that day. Thirty years of abortion is
thirty years too long. Forty million abortions is forty million
over the number that should have been allowed. We must continue
to educate others and reach out to those in need so that one day,
hopefully in the near future, the decision made on January 22,
1973, will be overturned.
One way to help educate others is to send them Choose Life postcards. You can send postcards to friends or family who may
not be aware of your strong stand for life. On the back of the
postcards you can explain your prolife beliefs. Knowing where
you stand may give others the strength to take a stand as well.
It is also important to send Choose Life postcards to your lawmakers
and to President Bush so that they know how important this issue
is to their constituents. If purchased before January 17, 2003,
Right to Life of Michigan is offering Choose Life postcards at
a special price of $6 for 100. For more information, please call
Maureen or David at (616) 532-2300 or e-mail
