Remembering Roe, women and unborn
Twenty-eight years have passed since the Supreme Courts
deadly decisions. Take time to remember these tragic events.
As January ushers in another anniversary of legalized abortion,
many will remember, pray, mourn, march and rally for Roe vs. Wade
and Doe vs. Bolton.
Frequently, and especially at this time of year, well intentioned
platitudes are repeatedly spoken. Admittedly, these words sometimes
hang in the air, refusing to take hold of hearts and actually
move people to action. That is why many need a special time each
year to become reinvigorated, re-energized and to become equipped
for another year.
After so many years of death among our unborn, abuse and neglect
towards women and bias in the media, there is a tendency to become
numb to it all. Therefore, use this season to work towards convictions
which grow into actions grounded in hopefulness.
President of Right to Life of Michigan Barbara Listing said, Over the years, all of us have used words to ignite hearts
and minds. We dutifully write letters, publish newsletters and
craft articles. But once a year we stop. We take a break from
the day to day fight and take special care to make sure our actions
shout, where other times our words have only whispered. Actions
can speak louder than words. If the rest of the abortion minded
country uses the language of illusion, let us take on the action
of authenticity.
Imagine the attention prolife people can command through acting
out beliefs.
The historical Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade, which was handed
down on January 22, 1973, by our U.S. Supreme Court, took power
away from states to decide abortion law for its citizens. Remembering
this date by attending rallies, traveling to Washington for the
March for Life or participating in candlelight vigils provides
the opportunity to remind America that individuals in states across
the country do still have power.
There is the power of non violent protests, power to educate,
power to set by example, power to persuade, power to move peoples
hearts and power to act on words.
Listing said, Take heart, for alone we can become weary,
but together we can cause great things to happen.
