Berlin, Germany The Agence France-Presse reported
in October that distributors of a chemical abortion drug will
pull the pills from the German market at the end of the year.
A spokesperson for distributor Femagen Arzeimittel said too few
abortion practitioners are using the dangerous drug.
The chemical abortion method was introduced in Germany during
November 1999.
New Orleans, La. Stem cells, which promise
treatments for currently incurable brain ailments and spinal cord
injuries, may be far easier to obtain from adult tissues than
anyone had thought, according to a Los Angeles Times article
published in November.
The news is great for prolife advocates who oppose the killing
of unborn children to obtain stem cells for research.
The study by researchers at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical
School in New Jersey shows for the first time that, with the proper
experimental growth factors, stem cells isolated from adult bone
marrow can convert into neurons quickly and can be grown in almost
unlimited supply, according to the article.
Adult stem-cell research has been encouraged by prolife advocates
because it does not end the life of a unique human being while
allowing for potential treatments for diseases to be pursued.
Augusta, Maine Voters in Maine have rejected a
state initiative to legalize assisted suicide, keeping Maine from
becoming the second state in the nation to allow doctors to legally
help patients die.
Maine voters defeated the proposal 326,507 to 307,054, or 51.5-48.5
percent.
The Maine Medical Association helped lead the fight against the
assisted suicide initiative along with prolife and religious organizations.
Michigan voters defeated a similar measure in 1998 by 79-21 percent
of the vote.
Grand Rapids, Mich. As RU 486 becomes available
in Michigan, Right to Life of Michigan continues to make better
options available to women experiencing an unexpected pregnancy.
Abortion never has to be a final option for women and families.
By making a toll-free phone call, women and men in Michigan can
be connected to helpful agencies across the state which provide
assistance during a crisis pregnancy.
President of Right to Life of Michigan Barbara Listing said, On September 28, 2000, the Food and Drug Administration
approved the RU-486 abortion cocktail, effectively putting womens
health at greater risk and boosting the multi-million dollar business
of abortion. This drug regimen - essentially a do-it-yourself
abortion kit - requires multiple doctor visits and constitutes
anything but the safe, easy and private abortion procedure
that advocates so loudly insist to be the right of every woman.
When calling 1-800-57WOMAN, women and men will be given life-affirming
options to abortion.
Chicago, Ill.The Journal of the American Medical
Association published studies in November showing that dying Americans
have priorities. The top priorities included preparing for death
and spending time with loved ones. The studies also showed, unfortunately,
that patients and doctors do not discuss these important issues.
As assisted-suicide advocates push to legalize suicide as a treatment for end-of-life-care, society is faced with the realization that
overwhelmingly terminally ill people do not want such an option.
