Right to Life of Michigan

Granholm Can No Longer Hide

Her actions as governor prove that Jennifer Granholm is far from being prolife

Article
In 2002, Jennifer Granholm was a relatively “unknown” commodity on the abortion issue. As Michigan’s Attorney General, she had little opportunity to openly express her views on abortion, and she was not pressed by the press to make them known. As the Democrat candidate for governor, Granholm used the oft-repeated mantra that she was “personally opposed” to abortion but didn’t want to impose her beliefs on others.

In 2006, as Governor Granholm runs for re-election, her radical pro-abortion views are - or should be - well known to the Michigan electorate - and to prolife voters in particular. No longer can she hide behind the old smokescreen of being “personally opposed.” No more smokescreen.

Jennifer Granholm has consistently shown throughout her tenure as Michigan’s governor that she is adamantly opposed to granting the basic right to life for the unborn. Jennifer Granholm is consistently AGAINST LIFE. And in 2006, she cannot hide! No more smokescreen.

For anyone who is still undecided or who wants to give her “the benefit of the doubt,” consider her actions AGAINST LIFE...no more smokescreen:

Granholm vetoed House Bill 4478, a bill which would have eliminated “judge shopping” and created a statewide court standard in parental consent judicial bypass proceedings. This was a very good bill which even the judges wanted to see pass. This would have created a set of standards and eliminated some of the very questionable bypasses that minors have used to obtain abortions without parental consent. A Granholm action AGAINST LIFE.

Granholm showed her greatest contempt for the unborn by vetoing the Legal Birth Definition Act - and then giving false reasons for her actions to the press. She stated that the Act did not have provisions for health of the mother - which it did - and that similar legislation had been declared unconstitutional by the courts - a bogus claim because this Act was unlike any other to go before the courts. Just more Granholm smokescreen AGAINST LIFE.

Fortunately, the people of Michigan took up their pens and drained the veto ink from the Granholm pen by approving the Legal Birth Definition Act with the greatest number of signatures collected by an all-volunteer prolife “army” in the shortest period of time and with the highest percentage of valid registered voter signatures in Michigan petition history! A definite light shining through the Granholm smokescreen.

Unfortunately, opponents of the unborn - Granholm’s backers in the pro-abortion movement - are waiting to file a lawsuit against the Legal Birth Definition Act before it goes into effect at the end of March 2005. Michigan voters would do well to remember the Gov. Granholm vetoes, and her lack of respect for the unborn child. Unlike 2002, Jennifer Granholm now has a record - and this record is without question AGAINST LIFE.
