Right to Life of Michigan

Here’s the lingo!
Different ways to give

We want to thank many of our loyal supporters who have already remembered Right to Life of Michigan in their will or trust. Donors tell us how pleased they are to have discovered a way to provide for their loved ones, and make a significant gift to their favorite charities all at the same time (it’s not uncommon for several charities to be named in one document). If you’re thinking about naming Right to Life of Michigan, or Right to Life of Michigan Educational Trust, or Right to Life of Michigan Educational Endowment Fund in your will or trust, now is a good time, and it’s easy to do.

One comment that is often made by those wishing to name our organization in their will or trust is, “You tell us where Right to Life of Michigan most needs the money, and that’s where we’ll put it.” Here are a couple of things to think about:

1. If tax-deductibility is not an important issue for the donor, then the most flexible gift to the organization is to Right to Life of Michigan, a 501 (c)(4) non-profit . RLM is able to donate to both the RLM Educational Fund and the RLM Educational Endowment Fund as needed. To make a gift to Right to Life of Michigan, ask your attorney to include the following paragraph in your will or trust:

I give, devise, and bequeath to Right to Life of Michigan, a non-profit corporation, with its principal offices located at 2340 Porter St. S.W., P.O. Box 901, Grand Rapids, MI 49509, the sum of $ ________ or _________% of the estate, or a description of the gift (_______________).

2. If tax-deductibility is an important consideration for the donor, then the most flexible gift to the organization is to the Right to Life of Michigan Educational Fund, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit. The RLM Educational Fund can make donations to the RLM Educational Endowment Fund as needed. To make a gift to the Right to Life of Michigan Educational Fund, ask your attorney to include the following paragraph in your will or trust:

I give, devise, and bequeath to the Right to Life of Michigan Educational Fund, an educational trust, with its principal offices located at 2340 Porter St. S.W., P.O. Box 901, Grand Rapids, MI 49509, the sum of $_______ or ______% of the estate, or a description of the gift (_____________________).

3. Once again, if tax-deductibility is an important consideration for the donor, and the goal is to invest the gift for the future, then the donor may wish to consider a gift to the Right to Life of Michigan Educational Endowment Fund, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit. The Endowment Fund never spends the corpus of the gift, instead it is invested, creates interest, and only the interest can be used to fund educational projects; it’s a gift that gives forever. To make a gift to the Right to Life of Michigan Educational Endowment Fund, ask your attorney to include the following paragraph in your will or trust:

I give, devise, and bequeath to the Right to Life of Michigan Educational Endowment Fund, an educational trust, with its principal offices located at 2340 Porter St. S.W., P.O. Box 901, Grand Rapids, MI 49509, the sum of $ _______ or ______% of the estate, or a description of the gift (____________________).

Why is it important to have the correct bequest language in a will or trust? So the donor can feel confident that their gift will be distributed according to their wishes - the right amount or percentage of the estate to the right charitable cause(s).
