Michigan youth wins national prolife oratory
award
For the second year in a row, a high-school teen from Michigan
has taken home first place at the National Right to Life (NRLC)
Oratory Contest. Speaking in defense of the elderly, ailing and
disabled, Lael Galardi, a recent home school graduate from Owosso,
represented Michigan at NRLC's Oratory Contest in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, in June.
Speaking out against euthanasia, Lael gave a heartwarming presentation, "Caring for the Sick, Protecting the Weak," in which
she shared a family experience related to an end of life situation.
"We who are healthy have an obligation to care for those
who are ailing whether in mind or in body," said Lael.
Lael received a check for $1,000 and a plaque at the contest.
In addition to her first place recognition, Lael also had the
honor of sharing her speech with the attendees at the National
RTL Convention Banquet. Lael was surprised when her name was announced
as the winner. She sees her first place finish as an honor considering
the high level of talent in the competition.
"This experience will be one I'll remember for a very long
time." Lael said, "It is so very important that we not
allow our country to embrace a culture of death, but rather take
upon us the obligation to protect the sick and aging." This
is the fourth time that an RLM oratory representative has won
first place at the NRLC contest.
Lael, who will be attending Geneva College in the fall, had a
great experience at the National RTL Convention. She was able
to meet 24 contestants who traveled from all across America to
share their prolife views.
Lael first entered the Right to Life of Michigan Education Fund
Oratory Contest last year as an 11th grader. She finished second
in the state, defeated only by the National winner. Her involvement
with the prolife movement has been enhanced and guided by her
parents, family and friends.
