Speaking up for the unborn
Andrew Gommesen has worked in Right to Life of Michigan's telemarketing
department for 5 years. Besides using his friendly voice to raise
money to help save children, Andrew has also used his speaking
ability to take a stand for the unborn in a public forum. He has
been attending Toastmasters meetings for about a year and has
used this experience to become a better public speaker.
In early March, Andrew won first place at his local club and
area Toastmasters competition. In his completely memorized speech,
which was also presented at a June Right to Life of Michigan staff
meeting, Andrew used the acronym SLED (Size, Level of development,
Environment, and Degree of dependency) to discuss the differences
between an unborn child and a newborn infant. Andrew then showed
how these differences are not morally relevant and that the unborn
are human beings who deserve as much protection as other members
of the human family.
Right to Life of Michigan Director of Telemarketing Pat Sear attended
the Toastmasters competition and was pleased to see Andrew take
a stand for the unborn. "There is no better topic on which
to educate others. I was very proud of Andrew and his hard work," Pat said.
Taking a public stand against abortion takes courage. Thank you,
Andrew, for speaking up for those who have no voice.
