Keep in touch - using your voice to defend the voiceless

For a government to function properly it needs the input of its citizens. Remember, governments are of the people, by the people and for the people. One way in which citizens can express themselves to the government is by voting for the candidates they favor. Another way, that is unfortunately often looked past, in which citizens can be heard is by contacting their legislators’ offices directly. According to the Center of Congress 2004 Public Opinion Survey, more than 90 percent of Americans believe it is their duty to communicate with their representatives in Congress, but only about 20 percent have actually contacted their House member or U.S. Senator.

Being in contact with your legislators and letting them know where you stand is especially important on life issues. Our elected officials need to understand the prolife people of Michigan are aware of and take interest in a number of pieces of legislation which are before the state legislature and Congress.

Legislators have opinions and positions on various issues, but these positions are not always set in stone. Prolife legislators need to be encouraged to continue to vote prolife and thanked when they do. Pro-abortion legislators need to hear why their prolife constituents are prolife and be persuaded to vote prolife.

Right to Life of Michigan President Barbara Listing said, “The unborn are not able to voice concerns to their legislators, so it is imperative for prolife people to speak up for them and be a voice for the voiceless.”
