Special State House Election Scheduled

After electing freshman representative Jerry Kratz (R) in 2002, voters in the 65th state house district will once again go to the polls to elect his successor. Sadly, Representative Kratz, a prolife legislator, suffered a heart attack in his home shortly after being sworn into office.

Governor Granholm has called a special election for the 65th district to replace Representative Kratz. The primary will be held on April 22, with the general election scheduled for May 20. Voters in the 65th district - including parts of Eaton, Jackson and Lenawee counties - should be prepared to go to the polls and vote in the primary.

With a 56 percent Republican base, it is highly likely that the winner of the Republican primary will be the next representative for the 65th district. The Right to Life of Michigan Political Action Committee will be looking at all candidates who file for this seat and making a determination for endorsement if there is a prolife candidate in the race.

The filing deadline for candidates was March 18, and the RLM-PAC would like to make a determination by the week of April 1. Any endorsement for this special election will be posted on our web site: www.rtl.org by Friday, April 11. Voters may also call our state central office at 616/532-2300 after that date.
Let’s keep the 65th state house seat in prolife hands.
