President’s Message: Unacceptability of Abortion

Teaching others the truth

On a massive scale, people have been reeducated to accept the unacceptable. Even people of faith, drawn into this groupthink culture, accept distortion of the truth, packaged as freedom and enlightenment.”
From Crisis magazine -- October 2002

Whether it is the national debate on human cloning or fetal stem cell use or abortion, the above quote from Crisis magazine speaks volumes.

Just a little over 30 years ago, the idea of abortions being legal throughout the United States was unthinkable. Today abortion is sold as a freedom and right. There is even an organization that honors abortionists through publicizing March 10th as a “National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers.” The public has been “reeducated” to think of abortion as only a “choice” without considering the consequences of that choice to the dead baby and to the post-abortive woman.

The unacceptability of abortion has progressed to the acceptance of abortion for any reason. Abortion has become for many their method of birth control. Abortions are not only legal in the early months of pregnancy, but also becoming more common for the second and third trimesters. Even the brutal partial birth abortion method was not horrendous enough for the U.S. Supreme Court. Five judges of our highest court refused to stop this abortion procedure that kills the baby by sucking out her brains, collapsing her skull and then removing the corpse from her mother. Accepting the unacceptable without public protest.

From abortion on demand our nation moves to using the soon to be aborted baby for research. Soon after abortion became legal, research papers began to appear about the scientific advances that could be made by experimenting upon fetal brains or other parts of the aborted baby. Next we heard about all the diseases that would be cured if only researchers could harvest the stem cells of aborted babies.

Creating human clones became the next step for reeducating the public to accept the unacceptable. The promise was that the cloned embryos wouldn’t be allowed to develop and be born. Instead, they would be killed for their spare parts. Accepting the unacceptable.

Whether it is the cry for legalized abortion or the use of fetal body parts, the proponents argue their side with the cry of scientific advances and human freedoms. Those of us who consistently side with the intrinsic value of each and every human life, at every stage of development, are labeled as reactionaries, preventing the progress of humankind.

Let’s not allow our adversaries to win the public debate on these critical moral issues. Let’s have the courage to speak out through our letters to the editor, our calls to elected officials and our conversations with neighbors. Let’s be informed and educated to counterattack this “groupthink” culture of death that promotes abortion and its decedents.
