On March 13, the United States Senate passed a bill banning partial-birth abortion. The bill defines partial-birth abortion as an abortion where the baby is delivered “past the navel...outside the body of the mother” before being killed. These types of abortions are performed by the thousands across the United States. Contrary to the idea behind this type of abortion, they are mostly performed on healthy mothers with healthy babies at about five or six months into the pregnancies and sometimes later. That means that these aborted babies, if delivered at this age could in many cases survive.

The bill now lies in the hands of the U.S. House of Representatives who must vote on the legislation before it can be sent to President Bush to be signed as law. The President has already declared that partial-birth abortion is an “abhorrent procedure that offends human dignity” and would immediately sign any bill banning it. And so, the prolife community eagerly awaits a decision supporting this bill from the U.S. House of Representatives.

You can help in this process. Representatives must be informed that the people they represent, even the teens they represent, urge them to support this ban on partial-birth abortion. They acknowledge letters and e-mails from all people and will take them into consideration before voting. So, e-mail or write your Congressman or Congresswoman today and voice your desire to have this ban on partial-birth abortion passed.
