Right to Life of Michigan

Meet the Lt. Governor

In the 20 years that Lt. Governor Dick Posthumus has been in public office, he has worked tirelessly to help Michigan's families, children and schools. His values of hard work, faith, family and service were shaped as he grew up on his family's farm. Dick's father worked as a farmer on the family's land. His mother was a member of the AFL-CIO and worked in the Keebler factory in Grand Rapids to make ends meet. Both parents put away some money to help send their children to college.

The money they saved helped send Lt. Governor Posthumus to Michigan State University. Dick earned a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics and public affairs management. In 1972, Dick married his college sweetheart, Pam. Dick and Pam consider their most important and enjoyable activity to be the time they spend with their four children: Krista, Lisa, Heather, and Bryan.

Dick has served as Michigan's Lt. Governor since 1998. Before being elected Lt. Governor, Dick was a state senator for 16 years. In eight of those years, he was Michigan's Senate Majority Leader. During his time in the state senate and as Lt. Governor, Dick's ability to bring people together and take on the tough issues earned him the respect of his colleagues and the trust of the people.

While in office Dick Posthumus has been a true supporter of human life. He has been outspoken in his views concerning the protection of life in all stages. As Senate Majority Leader, he made sure that every prolife bill that crossed his desk was reported to committee, so that it would have the chance to become a law. Dick Posthumus recently announced that he will be running for governor this year.

Dick Posthumus is a man who is committed to all of Michigan's people; not just some of them. He wants to improve this state and lives of the people and families that live in it.
