Free Ultrasound Information Now Online

Grand Rapids, Mich. -- As of May 15, 2007, the web site of the Michigan
Department of Community Health includes a listing of places where women can
view without charge an ultrasound of their unborn child. The Ultrasound Viewing
Option, which became law in March of 2006, requires abortion providers in
Michigan to give women considering an abortion the option of viewing a live
image of their ultrasound. This law also included a section which instructed a list
of health care providers, facilities and clinics which offer free ultrasounds to be
placed on Michigan’s informed consent web site by the Michigan Department of
Community Health. This listing includes the name, address, telephone number
and hours of operation of each location which provides free ultrasounds.

Right to Life of Michigan President Barbara Listing said, “Informing women
about free access to ultrasounds allows them a chance to see the beauty of their
developing child. For years, crisis pregnancy centers have been offering free
ultrasounds to pregnant women. Now women who are considering abortion will
be able to obtain on the state of Michigan’s web site a listing of places where they
can receive a free ultrasound.”

Michigan’s Informed Consent Law requires certain information on abortion
procedures, fetal development, prenatal care and parenting be provided to women
considering abortion at least 24 hours before undergoing an abortion. This
information is available online at the Physical Health and Prevention section of
www.michigan.gov/mdch.

“Ultrasounds are windows to the womb which show with undeniable certainty
that the unborn are living human beings. For too long abortion providers have
turned these images away from women considering abortion,” said Listing.
