For Public School Employees

H.B. 4310 of 1997
Sec. 166
Sponsor: Rep. Glenn Oxender

Effective Date: For the Fiscal Year ending September 30, 1999

This legislation requires that district or intermediate district school employees or their dependents wanting coverage for elective abortions would have to individually request that coverage and must pay for it with a separate premium (allowing only a “life of the mother” exception). A district or intermediate school district will not be allowed a collective bargaining agreement which includes health care coverage for abortion services.

If a district or intermediate district expends funds in violation of this section, the district or intermediate district will forfeit 5% of the total state school aid for the district or intermediate district.

This language only applies to appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 1999.
