President's Message:  'Choice' abuse

A tipping point? Enough is enough? Choice or Abuse of Choice?

These are all questions surrounding the present situation of legal abortion. In the past few months we have seen major changes in public revelations regarding the every day reality of our nation's abortion policy.

There was the 261-page grand jury report of the Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell who has been charged with eight counts of murder: one woman and seven babies reportedly born alive and then murdered using scissors to sever their spinal cords. This abortionist practiced for years without any inspection of his abortion facility and the state ignored complaints. The grand jury report said no one acted "because the women in question were poor and of color, because victims were infants without identities, and because the subject was the political football of abortion."

We often hear the pious statement that "abortions should be safe, legal and rare." We have long known that abortion is never safe or the baby, is harmful to women and of course is not rare. The Philadelphia abortionist is not a isolated case of just one bad apple. He is just another example of big city abortionists moving their facilities from the back alleys to the store fronts. They are found across the country.

Look at another abortion operation opened in the Washington, D.C. area. This one is operated by James Pendergraft from Florida where he had his medical licenses suspended four times. He advertises his new business via a web site as providing late term abortions using a method to kill the babies by "intracardiac injection of medication into the fetal heart." The woman is discharged 15 minutes after the injection to go to their own physician or a hospital or just home to deal with the dispelled dead baby.

A new initiative has produced a dilemma for Planned Parenthood which works diligently on their public face of caring for women. Live Action, under the leadership of a young woman, Lila Rose has produced numerous videos of Planned Parenthood facilities engaging in unethical and illegal practices. The videos feature Planned Parenthood staff members providing abortion information to potential sex traffickers who identify needing the information for underage girls.

We know Planned Parenthood as the largest abortion provider in the nation receiving $363,000,000 of our tax dollars yearly through government grants and contracts. Planned Parenthood's national abortion chain is responsible for at least 26% of all aborted babies.

With 38 years of this abortion experiment called "choice," have we come to a tipping point? Will our fellow citizens say enough is enough? Will our elected officials recognize the abuses of "choice?"

More and more people are self-identifying themselves as prolife. A Fox News/Opinion Dynamics Poll (1-18 & 19-2011) of 900 registered voters asked: "On the issue of abortion, would you say you are more pro-life or more pro-choice?" The results: 50% prolife, 42% prochoice, 5% mixed, 3% unsure. Just a short five years ago, the poll numbers were: 40% prolife, 51% prochoice, 5% mixed, 4% unsure.
